Unmarked system requirements
Last updated July 2026
Unmarked runs on any Mac with macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later, on both Apple silicon and Intel. It's a universal build, so it runs natively either way, no Rosetta. The app is free.
What you need
- macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later. Earlier versions won't run it.
- A Mac with Apple silicon or Intel. Both run natively.
- Unmarked itself, free from the Mac App Store at about 4 MB, or as a direct download from untitledapps.dev/unmarked at about 5 MB.
That's the whole list. No account, no internet connection, nothing extra to install alongside it.
Check your macOS version
- Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner.
- Choose About This Mac.
- Read the macOS name and number. If it says Sequoia (15) or higher, you're set.
If you're on an older version, update through Apple menu ▸ System Settings ▸ General ▸ Software Update, then install Unmarked.
Apple silicon or Intel
Both work, and you never pick a version. You get full speed on an M-series Mac and on an Intel Mac alike, because the build carries native code for each.
Older macOS: Sequoia is the floor on purpose. Building on the current system is what lets Unmarked render Markdown natively and stay fast, instead of carrying compatibility shims for systems Apple has moved past. If you can't update yet, you'll need a Mac that can.
Unmarked is a free, private Markdown reader and editor for Mac. Read the story , or get in touch.
